Will Lanthrop's Profile by Seth Wicker

Will Lathrop is a 23 year old mechanical engineering major at Ohio State University Marion. Will’s vision for his career is to have an active and hands on job that allows him to travel and explore the world around him. Part of his job would involve using coding or 3D cad software for programming and object design. Will has already begun using these programs and has designed a new truck seat for a high school internship and a floor plan for a house for his own personal amusement.

This is a mock example of a floor plan used to represent the actual model that Will created.

               Will’s interest in engineering began when he was around 8 years old. He began spending time with his uncle who spent most of his time working with engineers. As will experienced these individuals he began to gain interest in the subject at hand. When asked why Will responded,” I like the idea of being able to design something and know exactly how it works.” He explained how this interest is commonly shared among the men in his family.

               Will described a visionary as,” Someone who has a clear idea of what they want from the future.” One of Will’s inspirations is his best friend because of his clear understanding of his personal life and his knowledge of what he wants for his future. To Will his best friend is in fact a visionary because of his ability to envision his own future. Will himself is a visionary for his ability to create and plan for future projects. Being an engineer not only requires understanding but vision of the future in order to know what must be accounted for and what preparations should be made.
