Oprah Winfrey: Chelsey and Carli

For your comments on Presentations:

First, write about something well done.  What did you learn from this group?  What part of the Presentation seemed the best?  Be specific, and use a specific example from the Presentation and your notes.

Second, offer constructive criticism that would help this group. What might have been more clear?  What part of the Presentation seemed the least polished?  Be specific.

  1. One positive thing about his presentation was that you guys mentioned details about her life that I did not know. I knew of Oprah Winfrey but I did not know the ideas that you presented. One critique for this presentation was that even though Oprah Winfrey is famous, maybe you could have still added an intro about her life before her talk show. I would have liked to know more about what about her or what did she do that made her a visionary and want to even have a talk show.

  2. I thought this was a very interesting presentation. I didn't realize Oprah has accomplished that much in her lifetime. I though Carlie and Chelsey did a good job explaining the three things she's considered a visionary for, especially the No Holds Barred Conversation. Something I wish they would've done more of is explain the OWN network a little more, like what airs on it and such. Over all good presentation though.

  3. You did a great job when the video link wasn't there and you had to just describe it in the moment, great job. It was a nice presentation overall, I learned a lot about Oprah's beginning. The criticism I have is that the main focus was the no barred conversation, that was definitely super important, but I would have liked to hear more about the OWN network.

  4. I liked how you used the topic of sexual abuse to show how famous people haven't had perfect lives. It was very personal. I would have liked to hear more about her show and what her vision is for it.

  5. Good presentation, and good gob of bringing up information about her that many of us may not have known about such a well known person.

Providing more information about her network would have been a bit better but overall a good presentation.

  6. I thought you had good focus on her career which is appropriate considering that that is what she is most known for.

I would have liked to see more about her fight for women and African American rights. You touched on it some, but I didn't get the feel for what she really did for the advancement of these issues.

  7. One fact that amazed me was how young Oprah was when she began on a talk show, its impressive to see such success at a young age. One of the most effective and best pieces of the presentation was the use of media, I believe the videos helped show how Oprah truly felt about the topics at hand.

I think one thing that would have helped the presentation is finding personal sources from individuals who were around Oprah throughout her career.

  8. I loved the Oprah videos, I wish the third one would've showed up. You guys did a lot of great stuff throughout.
I think maybe you could've touched on her acting career a little more. But other than that it was pretty good.

  9. I did not know much about Oprah. I think you did well sharing important points about her success that show us she is a visionary. The No Holds Barred conversation was a great thing to mention. The video you showed of her talking about her rape was good to see. I'm surprised she didn't start crying; she seemed so comfortable sharing it, it must have took courage to do that for sure. You both seemed to really know the information. You kept excellent eye contact as well.

You mentioned how she is influencing people today and doing great things today. I would have liked to know more about this as well since I do not know much about her.

  10. I think you both did a great job not talking to too much about who she is because a lot of people already know who she is. I thought you did a really good job bringing up her back ground with the sexual predators because I think that had to have had a huge impact on her life. One thing to maybe add in your presentation was a call to action? What can we take from it and learn from it?

  11. It was interesting to learn about Oprah's abusive past. It is very important to survivors of abuse to find closure and to know that they are not alone, so I am glad she talked about it. The three main points for the presentation were very clear and easy to follow.
The presentation could be improved if the speaking parts were more evenly spread out.

  12. Listening to presentation brings back memories of watching her show when I came home from school. I like how you told us of what happen to her when she was young. I never knew that she was raped. So I can see how this inspired to make a difference in today's society.

Overall the presentation was excellent. You both did an amazing job on the research.

  13. One thing that I think you both did well was choosing aspects of her life to expand on, such as her rape and molestation. Not a lot of people know about this aspect of her life, so I find it very insightful. One critique that I have is the introduction to your presentation. It seemed a little unclear. Overall, well done!

  14. I enjoyed this presentation because even though most of us know who Oprah is, the presenters were still able to bring new information and teach the audience why she is such a visionary especially for black women. I particularly liked how even though they were unable to play their last video, they were familiar with it enough to explain it thoroughly. This made me more confident that they were experts on their subject and ready for this presentation. Something I think they could have worked on was to speak louder and delegate the work evenly.

  15. What I learned from this presentation was that Oprah was raped I would have never known that I just knew she had a show and she had a lot of money but I didn't know her struggle. Something that could have helped this presentation was telling a little more about her family.
